Ecorche is a year long intensive course offered to students at the FAA who want to take their anatomy studies further. Students meet twice weekly and sculpt in clay an anatomical flayed figure beginning with the skeleton. Artistic anatomy is stressed with an emphasis on form and function. Lectures are given regularly, various anatomical charts and diagrams are used, and a live model is also made available throughout the course. Regardless of their discipline, students develop a better appreciation and understanding three dimensionally of the shapes found under the skin that impact the surface of the human body and create form.
